RecycleBank appoints IAS for UK launch
25 June 2009
US based company RecycleBank has appointed IAS b2b Marketing to handle the launch of the UK's first domestic recycling incentive scheme, an innovative concept that has revolutionised recycling in America and is set to do the same over here.
In a bid to encourage recycling levels and reduce landfill,
RecycleBank awards Points to households for recycling that can be
redeemed and local and national retailers, such as Marks &
Spencer, as well as restaurants, leisure facilities and
charities.
IAS is developing the UK branding and design for RecycleBank, as
well as devising the PR strategy and implementation for the
launch.
Rob Morrice, managing director at IAS, said: "The RecycleBank
concept is a win-win situation. Local authorities benefit from
reduced landfill costs, while household get rewarded for doing
their bit for the environment.
"We've developed a branding strategy and PR campaign that will
propel this scheme around the country and make sure every local
authority and household in the UK is queuing up to get
involved."
Initially the scheme is being trialled in the Royal Borough of
Windsor and Maidenhead, where RecycleBank is working with the
council and waste management company, Veolia Environmental
Services, to bring the scheme to 2,800 households.
RecycleBank has significantly increased recycling volumes across
the US, where it services one million people across 19 states and
has boosted recycling rates anywhere from 30-80%.
With offices in New York and London, RecycleBank was recently
honoured as a 2009 World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer and has
been named as a 2009 Champion of the Earth by the United
Nations.
